Music:

The Mess Hall have spent their year touring around with the Foo Fighters, now if that’s not enough of a recommendation for you they also won the Australian Music Prize for their album ‘Devils Elbow.’ They will be playing here in Brisbane at The Zoo, a fantastically curious club in Fortitude Valley.

Theatre:

Grease the Musical

The ever popular classic has been put on stage and has come to Brisbane! Singing, dancing, romance, what more could you possibly want from a theatre production, not to mention this performance is theatre in the round.  So have a nice night out and while your at it you’ll be helping support the Wesley Breast Clinic as 50% of the shows proceeds will go to researching the early detection of breast cancer.

Movies:

The Brisbane International Film Festival:

This festival isn’t just about going to the movies, its about the parties and the special guests too.  If you’ve never had the opportunity to take part in a film festival, here’s your chance! Get in on something rarely experienced by the movie going public.  Experience a film with meaning and passion behind it that will take you out of your daily life and into the lives of well developed characters and plot lines before returning viewers to the real world again.

Where: The Regent Cinema (Queen St.) Palace Centro (Fortitude Valley), and The Australian Cinematique (Gallery of Modern Art – South Bank)
When: July 31- August 10
Cost: The price of a regular movie ticket

 

Art:

Sidney Nolan – A Poetic Vision

Sidney Nolan has been recognized as one of Australias most influential artists of the 20th century.  His paintings, drawings, and screenprints are recognized as some of the most profound symbols of life in Australia.  This is a show you’ll definitely want to catch.

Where: QUT Art Museum – Gardens Point
When: Thu 5 June 2008 - Sun 17 August 2008
Cost: Free!

 

Festivals:

The Ekka – Have a look at the annually much anticipated Ekka days held at the RNA Showgrounds.  Concerts, fireworks, shows, food, candy and more can all be found in abundance at this fantastic event.

Where: RNA Showgrounds, Brisbane
When: August 7-16
Cost: $18.70 for adults, $13.60 for concession

 

Sports:

2008 Origin Fight Night

Football Fight Promotions present the 2008 Origin Fight Night proudly supporting the Mardi Jackson Cancer Council Foundation.
A star studded evening of boxing with your favourite Origin greats including nine Celebrity Bouts with players competing for the Dick 'Tosser' Turner Challenge Cup.
