The Student Job Club is a free service, provided by Sarina Russo Schools | Australia, which aims to assist students with information on how to find part-time, temporary and vacation work while you study. It also offers a wide range of helpful suggestions to assist you to find employment including resume and cover letter templates, links to local job search websites and more so register your interest today!
Working In Australia
Finding a job in Brisbane can be difficult if you have never worked before. Most Employers expect you to have some sort of experience although you can do short courses to learn about how to make coffee or serve alcohol. Newspapers are a great place to start looking for work. You can contact the advertiser directly by calling or faxing your resume to the number provided. Also look on the internet regularly at various employment websites. You will often see advertisements in shop, cafe or restaurant windows asking for part-time or casual staff. In these instances it will help to carry several copies of your resume with you at all times.
The types of jobs available to you are dependent on certain criteria:
- Your capacity to speak and understand English
- How much, if any, experience in this field
- The hours you are available to work
- The number of hours you are allowed to work

- Bar Skills Program
This course includes: Bar Operations, Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and Responsible Gaming Services (RGS)
- Responsible Gaming Service (RGS)
This course covers the legal requirements for a person to work in a gaming room. It focuses on the areas of identifying problem gamblers, customer service with attention to exclusion of patrons, compliance with legal issues and assisting customers to undertake gaming sensibly.This course should be undertaken after the Gaming operations course or for persons currently working in the industry. It is expect that this will soon be an industry requirement for working in gaming venues.
- Bar Operations
This course covers the fundamental skills for a person to work in a bar.It focuses on the areas of customer service, beer, wine and spirit pouring as well as cocktail making and non-alcoholic beverages, including coffee.
- Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)
This course covers the legal requirements for a person to work in a bar serving alcohol. It focuses on the areas of identifying intoxicated customers, customer service with attention to refusal of service to patrons, compliance with legal issues and assisting customers to drink sensibly This course is designed to be undertaken after the Bar operations course or for persons currently working in the industry.It is a recommended requirement that all staff working in venues that sell alcoholic beverages undertake this course.
